THE STATE. IIcv. Dr. Stone Dead, llcv. Dr. J. A. H. Stono of Kalamazoo, whoso name has been prominently associat ed with the educational growth of tho stato for Hourly half a century, died Huddenly at tho residence of his son in Detroit a few days ug. Dr. Stone was born In Piermont, N. II., Oct. 23, 1S10. Ho prepured himself at Koyal -ton, Vt., for u collegiate courso and in 1S30 entered Middlebury college, graduating four year later. Tho next two years ho spent aH teacher in Hinosburg, Vt. He theu entered Andover theological seminary. While pursuing his courso in theology, ho taught at intervals in Middlebury collego and Phillips' ueademy. After completing this courso ho was ttettled as pastor ut Gloucester, Mass., then in Newton's theo logical seminary as professor of biblical literature and interpretation. Meanwhile ho was employed in editing a missionary periodical in Dostou. In May, 1S43, he went to Kalamazoo to assume charge of the liter ary institute, which has bocomo Kalamaz...
