Variable Weather Conditions in Geraldton LIGHT RAIN FALLS Following a drop in the merevvy or, Saturday last, when a maximum ol S3.0 degrees was recorded, the temper ature soared upwards again on Suuday to register a maximum of 07.0 degrees iwid again the local beaches were well patronised. Sunday's minimum tem perature reading was CG.U degrees. The current heat wave continued again yesterday and late in the afternoon the outer edge of a storm passed over the I town when light rain, which was accompanied by lightning and thunder, recorded a fall of seven points for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day. During the same period -SO points of rain were recorded at Tucka narra and 61 points at Meekatharra, while Mullewa and Northampton each received four points of rain. A mess age received from Ogilvie this after uoou stated that 72 points of rain had been registered at this centre, and at Binnu stormy conditions prevailed. The Collie Municipal Council is pressing for the establishment at Col lie of the proposed plant to gasify Collie coal by the Lurgi process. It will call a public meeting of all South West organisations and Parliamentary representatives to strengthen its claims. * The Government recently announced Its intention to erect a pilot plant in Perth to test the process before estab lishing a main plant at Collie and pip Ing gas to Perth. Councillor Spencer said: — 'This process has been proved in Germany with similar coal. A £200,000 pilot plant is just a waste of money. It seems to me that the Gov ernment sees an easy means of aug menting present gas supplies in the city and Collie will get nothing.' DEATH OF A NATIVE Altercation at Meka Station INQUEST PROCEEDINGS Yalgoo, This Afternoon. The story of a series of fights between natives at Meka Station on March 1st were related to the Coroner (Mr. T. Ansel 1) when he conducted an inquest at Yalgoo yesterday into the circumstances surrounding tho death | of a native known as 'OusIgw,' aged, j about thirty years, who died in the i Mullewa District Hospital on March 2nd from injuries allegedly received in a fight at the station the previous day. A charge of murder was subsequently laid against another native named 'Bill,' altas Bardie, aged about twenty years, stockman, of Meka Station. The witnesses were examined by Detective A. L. M. Wedd, of the Geraldton Office of the C.I.B., and Inspector Martin, of the Department of Native Affairs, was also in attendance. Evidence was given by 'Lucy,' mother of 'Bill,' regarding arguments which had developed between the natives at' the station and her testi mony was corroborated by 'Chicka,' !...
