Thursday. . Before Mr. D. Pyne, J.P. . . - James, Stafford; was sentenced to twenty-four hours''imprisoninenl| for being drunk. ' - Fox v Morris. — Affiliation. Adjourned from i ' last sitting. . Mr. Newton, who appeared for. tho complain ant, said it was a case which required two magistrates, and as there were, two gentlemen in the adjoining room, it would be, a conve nience to the parties before the Court if Mr. Pyne would leave tho Bench. In some respects the lately elected Parliament is more remarkable for what it doe3 not, than vrhat it does include ; conspicuous among the absentees, are the well known faces of Mr. Piddington, Mr. Buchannan, Mr. Dibbs, Mr. Lloyd, Mr. Abbott and other eccontricities who 'Will in future havo to amuse,' or to bore less distinguished assemblies. Although there is some little improvement in the composition of tne House, there is no abatement of party spirit and striving for office. ANGLICAN NEW CHURCH BUILDING COMMITTEE. A meeting of this body was held in the vestry, on Friday evening last. Present — Rev. F. S. Wilson (chair), Messrs, J. B. Wood, Vaughn, Pyne, Olson, Anderson, Nash, Morris, E. L. Warton, Norris, and'Ryall. Mr. W. S. Potts, superintendent of Works, was also in attend ance. The Chairman opened the meeting with prayer, as usual. Mr. Olson asked the Chairman whether some better arrangement in regard to forming an efficient choir could not be effected, and sug gested that a trained juvenile choir, such as that in connection with the Church of England Temperance Society, would be the means of contributing materially to the more harmonious rendering of the choral part of the Sabbath services. The Chairman replied that tho irregular attendance of the members of the choir had occasioned him much annoyance in the past, but latterly he was much pleased to find that the congregation entered more generally and heartily into the singing than when led by a c...

There is nothing now to arrest the onward march of the victorious Russian army, and the commanders have proposed to inarch direct upon Constantinople. Mehomet Ali lias been restored to liis posi tion as commander-in-chief of the Turkish army in Bulgaria. In tho course of a Bpeech, Earl Derby said, in reference to British interests in the East, tluit the Euphrates was the true line to India ; and lie said, with respect to the present Russian position in Asia, that there was no ground for anxiety as to English interests in India so long as the Suez Canal was open, and only Turkey was allowed to occupy Constantinople.
