The combat was vivid and excit ing and was greatly applauded. The Agents-General are making elaborate preparations for illuminating the offices on three nights in Jubilee week. THE IRISH PASTIES. London, Saturday. The Dillonites have issued a manifesto signed by 21 members of the party in which they state that they are unable to join in the Jubilee celebration owing to the wrongs that Ireland has suffered under -the Union. On the other hand, 61 Dillonites have applied for seats to view the procession. ABBIVAL OF MB. SEDDON. London, Sunday. Messrs. Wilson, Baittie, and Hamilton, from the Colonial Office, met Premier Seddon at Euston Ballway Station with three Bay al carriages, and conveyed him to the Hotel Cecil. __

The Maid Inquiry. Loudon, Friday. Mr Háwksley, solicitor, after consulting with Mr. Rhodes has refused to produce cablegrams thai the Committee ordered him to prodoce. The Committee hold that a solicitor is not able to claim pro tection that has been refased to his' client. The chairman intimated his intention to report the refusal to the House of Commons. Mr. Beit has admitted having ex pended £200,000 on the Band agitation but he demanded that Mr. Labouchere should prove the charge that money mak ing was his sole object or apologise. Mr Labouchere replie i that he preferred to prove the cnarge to apologising. The Committee were not in sympathy with M. Labourchere's examination of Mr. Beit and adjourned the sitting in confusion.

Mr. Gos, of Haynes and Bobinson's office, was present to appear for plaintiff, and received the congratulations of the Bench on bis debût in Western Australia as a solicitor.

South Australian Jjoan, London, Friday. The amount tendered for the South Australian loan of £1,000,000 was £4,784,500. A svndicate applied for £2,325,000 at £96 16s 6<L and they will get only 9 per cent, of the amount they applied for. The arerage price of the tenders was £97 13s 8d. London, Saturday. Of the tenders, £500,-000 was ap plied for at £98, and ¿6100.000 at £98 10s. It is believed the tenderers in cluded the Adelaide Savings* Bank and the insurance companies who hold Treasury Bills redeemable by stock.
