The attendance was, however, less than in former years. owing to thu weather which mi itated against the presence of visitors from a distance, and various, local happen i The hall was prettily decorated by Mrs J. II. Johnion, who with the willing assist. ance of other ladies and a few of the Light Horse had evolved a pleasant color scheme of wattle with a "1 thin red line" in appear ance. but in appearance only, less ela:orate then that of former years. The effect was enhanced by the use of fairy lamps, and the result harmonious and pleasing .in the extreme. The music was provided by Messars Boyd and Eades, and was such that the absence of Melbourne artists was not regretted; very special thanks are due to Misses Scorahl and Johnson, who relieved the professionals. The flour, which had been- entrusted tn the capablo hands of Mr Angel, was: all that cou...

ALEXANDRA DISTRICT FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. THE WALES' TROPHY. ALEXANDRA V. JOHNSON'S OK. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 20 August 1909

h ALEXANDRA ISTRICA T FOOT ' BALL ASSOCIATION. TIlE WALES' TROPHY. [By OMLOOREB.] r -" o ALEXANDRA V. JOHNSON'S CK. For the past three matches in which the Creek have been engaged they only required to win one match to secure the trophy, but when several of their best players left the district just about that time, they were considerably weakened, and as a result met with their oaily two defeats against Alexandra and 'arek. There has been practically "three finals and each of the three clubs benefitted by having a good gate. Last Saturday, Alexandra were unfortunate in this respect because had it been a fine day they would, no doubt, have taken a record gate. As it was, there was alarge crowd present to see the match played on a saturated ground with a number of small lakes here and there 'which the players found a delight in toppling one another into. Good football was quite out of the question, and it is a pity that the match was not favor?dp with tine weather. Alexandra commenced...

Acheron. (From. Our Own Correspondent). We have bean a particularly happy family in this locality for some time past, hut recOlt events havO caused severe changes. Mrs Andew Crichton (neo Miss Dobsnrm), who, owing to indifferent health, had to relinquish farming pur suits, left, here a few days ago, much to the regret of the residents,. Mrs Crichton wea, very popular, and to mark the r'pec?ct and esntern in which she was held her many admirers pre sented her with a valuable souvenir on the eve of her departure. Mrs P]. The district for miles around regret theu'departureo of lisses Selltar- iriugh turs of Mr W. Sellers.
