MINISTERIALISTS' MEETING. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 22 October 1895

MINISTERIALISTS' MEETING. ? m ? . ? The reports which have found their way into tlie papers about the recent private meetina of Ministerial snp porters -mil probably prove to be the heralds of a very important political development. That development jcay take one of two forms : The termination of the protracted fiscal struggle, which is doing so much to palsy trade and Qoramevce by keeping alive a spirit of commercial unrest; or the destruction of the Reid Adminis tration. A \ery few words will make clear the real significance of the meet ing. Before the recent dissolution a caucus meeting of the freetrade party was held, at which it was decided that the plan of campaign should be an appeal to the country on the Land and Income Tax Assessment Bill which had been rejected by the Council. In order to vindicate the ris-lits of the popular (Jhamber, the constituencies should be asked to en dorse ' the bill, the whole bill, and ' nothing but the bill,' and when Parliament reassembled— as...

SPORTING. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 22 October 1895

SPORTING. ''Tk-OoiJE's Ghost.' Waterfall is the second three-year-old that h\B snsceeded in pulling nff the Coalfield Cup, it having been won in 18S2 by Little Jaok, by ' CmgCole, who carried 6.11, the mile and a half journey on that occision took 2min 41 1 sees to get ovor, whereas the son of- Niagara— Lttie Wanzer carried 7.3 (including a Bib paoa'ty) and scampered over the 1Z furlongs in the fast time of 2min 3G13B0S, being only a quarter of a seennd behind the record. Waterfall, Wallace, Auraria. Hopscotch, Hova, Trenchant, Quiner, Delaware, and Monastery are the horses that wi'l play the imp Ttant part in the Melbourne Cup, on Guy Faulk's D^y. I have always entertained the idea that Wallace wnuld win the Derby and Cup, and I am still of the same opinion, although he has now anot-to-be-despised rival in Waterfall.. List week sporting scribes alluded to the bad luck Mr Oxenham hni experienced lately, but I trow th ore is not one to be found who holds that opinion now. The Officer...

No doubt a counter attraction in the shape of a Salvation Army wedding, held in tbe 'baraacks' drew away a large portion of those who usually crowd in at the rear ot the Puhlfo Halt, whenever any ocinoert or amuse ment is on. As a pre'ude to the concert there was a torohlight procession of tbo members of the Fire Brigade and Bicycle Club, headed by the. Band, through the principal streets of the town. The first item wob an overture by Professor Lieber maon. This was followed by ' The Hay boys' by Mr Lastbergar, tbo rendering of wmen lett sunning v- oe aeurea. mm Trebilcoek gave two solos during- tbe even ing, ' Whon we Meet' and ' I was Dream ing.'' wbiob proved very acceptable items, the young lady being warml...
