ROCKHAMPTON. MONDAY, MARCH 4, 1878. THE late rains, follbwing upon a severe drought, have hadl the effect of again arousing the attent on of the people of Brisbane to the ui ;ency of carrying on to completion the voric of city drainage. Fortitude Valley i ; particularly unfortu- nate in regard to this subject. It has grown into a very populous suburb, or rather an import! nt and integral part of the city prop :r, but has no ade- quate provision or drainage of any I kind. The rei nova! of sewage is attended to inder the direction of the Board of i lealth, by means of night carts, and th« earth closet system is in partial operati n. These arrange- ments are far fron satisfactory ; but as regards the removal of storm waters, the situation of the Vail :y is most disadvan- tageous, and nothing worthy of mention has been done to efl :ct an improvement in this description c f drainage. The question whether the Governor can sig i warranta on the sole authority of the Assen Uly is not yet finally settled. The Morning Bulletin, ROCKHAMPTON. TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 1878. [Newspaper Article] — Morning Bulletin — 5 March 1878

ROCKHAMPTON. TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 1878. THE annual gatherihgs on " Foundation Day" in the Brisba ie Grammar School, are always bf a vet r interesting charac- ter, not only to th : pupils themselves, but their numerous. riends, and even to the public at large. The-latest celebra- tion <rf this kind wrns by*-no means in- ferior to its predecessors. His Ex- cellency Sir Arthur uCennedy presided, and the building was crowded with spectators, among whpm the ladies were in strong force. ThA head master, Mr. Roe, read his annual report and address, which is moderate in none, and marked an earnest and truthful spirit. It points out that in the Boys' Blanch, the numbers in attendance are aim ist stationary, the last four years showing 124, 122, 121, and 122, and it wou d almost appear thal the demand for a Grammar School education was stereoty ted and incapable of expansion. Howl ver, this is evi- dently not the case. . i new Grammar School has recently be :n established at Toowoomba...
