LAWSON'S TRUSTEES v. COM- ! MEKCIAL BANK. ! APPEAL DISMISSED. (By Telegraph.) Adelaide, Tuesday evening. Judgment of the fall Court was de livered to-day, in the appeal by the bank in the case of the Commercial Bank of Sooth Australia V. Lawson'a trustees. The Chief Justice was of opinion that the plaintiff was entitled to reoorer Hie fail amoant of £19,473 for which judgment was given, on the elementary ground that the bank had no right to honor the cheque of one trustee without the authority of tbe other three. Justice Bundey then read an elaborate judgment reviewing the facts and supporting the judgment given at the hearing of the case. The appeal was dismissed with costs. A iponth .-was allowed the bank to consider whether the case shall be sent to the Privy Council'

Tttv. collapse of a scheme which has already cost sixty millions sterling, the balk of which has been subscribed by poor people, is a circumstance calculated to cause widespread dissap poinfcmenfc and distress. In the tele graphic columns of our last issue, onr readers were informed that the wildest excitement prevailed in Paris. Thurs day had been fixed as thelasfc day for receiving tenders for lottery, bonds for completing-the work. At that time fears had arisen on the question of the fall amount being subscribed. It stated that excited men and flashed women were rushing-forward offering to give everything they possessed, with the view of carrying on the work, and thus enabling them to reap some return for former investments.
