GLADSTONE. [ïHûît OÜB OWH OOBBBSrOSBEHT.] TBE usual fortnightly meeting of the Municipal Council waa held thia evening, wheu several bills were paid, and Mr. Hawthorne filed the follow- ing notice of motion : " That this Council do apply to the Government for a loan of three hundred pounds, for the purpose of carrying out tho necessary works throughout the town." A publio meeting was held nt the Town Hall. Mr. Hawthorne presided os Chairman, at which Mr. T. P. Pugh, J.P., eiplained the provisions of the new Elections Act of 1872, especially directing attention to those clauteB for regulating the enrolment of claimants lo the franchise. Theas clauses are somewhat intricate and their provisions incomplete. At the conclusion of the proceedings a volo of thanks was proposed to Mr. Pugh and tho Chairman. May 2.
