THE TWO DESTINIES [Newspaper Article] — Farm, Field, and Stockman — 20 March 1886
THE TWO DESTINIES BV WII . KIE COliIilNS . AUTHOIt OF WOMAN IN WHITE , NEW MAGDALEN MOONSTONE . ETC . CHAPTER XXX . —C ONTINUED . In the hours when I was alone , my thoughtsoccupying themselves mostly among the persons sum events of the past—wandered back many and many a time to Shetland and Miss Dunross . My haunting doubt as to what the black veil had really hidden from me was no longer accompanied by a feeling of horror when it now recurred to my mind . The more vividly my later remembrances of Miss Duuross were associated with the idea of an unutterable bodily affliction , the higher the noble nature of the woman seemed to rise in my esteem . For the first time since I had left Shetland , the temptation now came to me to disregard the injunction which her father had laid on me at parting . When I thought again of the stolen kiss in the dead of night ; when I recalled the appearance of the frail white hand . waving to mo through the dark curtains its last farewell ; and when ther...

Economy Club and Freight Charges , [Newspaper Article] — Farm, Field, and Stockman — 20 March 1886
Economy Club and Freight Charges , I have received my Economy Club certificate , and am satisfied with it , and I will try to tret some new subscribers . The Economy Club will be a great inducement to people to subscribe for your paper if the freight charges could be reduced , but as it is , they cant see how they will gain anything by it . Snow-Line and Seeding . [Newspaper Article] — Farm, Field, and Stockman — 27 March 1886
Snow-Line and Seeding . Having ; been engaged in farming for over forty years at different points as far north as St Paul , Minn ., and as far south as Springfield , Mo ., I have come to the conclusion that a knowledge of the receding of the snow-line northward , and disappearance of frost when spring approaches , would be of great value to farmers living in the above-named belt or latitude . I have not had sufficient data , but take , say , the 1 st of March , for example , and suppose the snow is all gone as far north as the Iowa line , and that the frost is out of the ground fifty miles south of that line , I think it would be safe for the farmer to sow oats , etc ., even if the nights were frosty and weather cool The following diagram , represent ing fifty miles between the lines , perhaps will better illustrate my meaning . Let the double line represent the Iowa and Missouri line TIME MAR . 1 ST . TIME MAE . 7 TH . Snow . Frost-line , Risky . Safe Snow * gr nd frozen . No snow ...
