Prof , _pofd s Entertainment . Last Saturday night Prof Foid , the celebrated humoiist and impersonator , giceted his fourth Gettysburg audience in Brua Chapel . The audience was of a fair sue and was obviously veiy sympathetic and appieciative . Piactically every performance was loudly applauded , and , as all present would admit , dcseivedly so . Excellent taste and good judgment weie exercised in the selection of a program . Wit naturally preponderated , but there was not lacking a proper amount of the serious and pathetic to balance and make complete the progiam . Among some of the best productions weie a number of negro impersonations on the late Spanish-Ameiican war , which weie lendered in an unusally leahstic manner , and did not fail to leceive hearty applause . SOCIETIES . PIIII-0 Iron is heaped in mountain piles , And gluts the largest forges ; But gold-flakes gleam in the dim defiles , And hidden gorges . That these grains of gold aie also found in literary societies is not expressed by the poet but the members of Philo apparently realize this . Although the work heie is entuely voluntary and peiformed under piessure of more exacting duties , yet it is faithfully and well done , and the meetings are well attended . This work , assumed of the members own free wills , when there is already plenty to do , makes manhood , prepares them for the woi k of life .
