PAULINE DEMONSTRATES [Newspaper Article] — Player — 5 January 1912

PAULINE DEMONSTRATES SPRINGFIELD , Mass ., Dec . 30 . —Pauline , the hypnotist , appearing at Poll s theater this week , gave a private demonstration of two of his most remarkable tests before a party of local physicians in Cooley s hotel Wednesday . The tests he demonstrated were his renowned blood test and the saliva test . The physicians were unanimous in the expression that the feats accomplished apparently by suggestion were remarkable and difficult of explanation . The blood test , people who have seen Pauline work will recall , is the demonstration in which he takes a subject , places him under hypnotic influence , and then directs the flow of blood in one of his arms by spoken suggestion ; he makes the blood leave the arm entirely until the member seems cold and white as marble and then brings it back again , apparently _ under _ perfect control . The saliva test is one in which the same subject is placed in a cataleptic state and stops the flow of saliva in his mouth upon t...

UNDERGOES OPERATION FOR AURAL ABSCESS [Newspaper Article] — Player — 5 January 1912

UNDERGOES OPERATION FOR AURAL ABSCESS Trovato , the Violinist , Under Surgeon s Knife in Washington . Trovato , the violinist , while in Washington , D . C , last week was forced to undergo an operation because of an abscess which had formed in one of his ears . Dr . Morgan , a prominent specialist of Washington , performed the operation and the well-known vaudeville performer is now experiencing little difficulty from the ailment which caused him so much annoyance for a long time . Dr . Morgan expresses the opinion that the abscess formed as the result of Trovato s somewhat extraordinary activity on the stage ; vaudeville patrons who have seen Trovato will recall that the rhythm which the violinist puts into his violin at each performance seems to permeate his entire being and keeps him moving literally from head to foot . After having played an extensive tour in the East—this week at Hammerstein s in New York City—Trovato is about to go West to fill a sixteen-week engagement in Ch...
