In making this estimate of the number of ronsiimers of tobacco in the Tinted !-_t— tho entire female population of thecouin IT/, comprising one-halt of the whole, are stricken out. Though there are exception •al cases where females, to a limited extent, make use of tobacen, as a class they may be regarded as no/i-constliners. 1 have also stricken out the male children and youth under fifteen years of age, who, ac cording to the census tables, comprise two tifths of the male population.
