LATE NEWS OF LOUISIANA What is Ooing On in Onr Own State as Told by Special Telegrams. MONROE MATTERS Summer School and Chantauqua for Franklin=-Rice Belt Needs Rain--Hail Does Damage. RICE SUFFERING FOR RAIN. Crowley.-Early rice is suffering for the want of rain. The present drouth nas existed now for over six weeks, and the soil in many parts of both Calcasieon and Acadia is so hard that planting is impossible. The ear ly planted rice, which has sprouted but which is not yet high enough to flood by artificial irritation, will suf for severely if rain does not fall within the next few days. The Crowley House changed hauds Saturday and will hereafter be con duoted by Joe Harrel, who has been clerk at the hotel for the past year. Mrs. A. F. Roberts, the former pro prietress, will leave in a few days for Illinois to reside. The young men of the town have raised $2,500 toward building a gym nasium. Alexandria.-Through the efforts of Hen. R. P. Hunter, postmaster of Alexander, this section will have a rural free delivery of nail, to be known as route No. 1, which will be about twenty-four miles in length. W. O. Latimer, special agent, rural free delivery of the United States, has been here, and recommends the route as mapped out. The mail of all persons resid;ng on this route will be delivered to them daily and mail will be collected along the route daily. The carriers will be allowed to carry $5 worth of stamps, and the public can procure stamps from them.
