Egbers and wife of Griffith have returned frcm the St. I.tuis faitf and were in town this morning to meet their father, Rev. Francis M. Egbers of Athol, Idaho. The eldtr gentleman settled at this place in 1883 011 the farm in the southerly outskirts of the town, now now owned by Prof. J. H. Perkins, where himself and good wife lived up to a short time ago, when they moved to Ko itnai county, Idaho. Mr. Egbers held the offices of county treasurer and assessor a number of years finally retir ing upon his own motion after honestly fulfilling his duties pe.taiiiing to these va rious positions of trust. Johnson of Oakesdale, came across the country yesterday from Downs, Lincoln county with her daught er-in-law Mrs. Frank G. Johnson and is the guest of Mrs. J. G. Bennett at Wood land Heights farm one mile north of the city. Her late husband was a member of the first board of county commission ers when Adams county was organized in 1883, was alto postmaster, hotel keep er and merchant for many years in the early history of our town. Mrs. Johnson is in her year and enjoys good heath. She makes her home with her son in law Hon. R,. J. Neergaardwho was once chosen to the legislature from here; was also assessor. After leaving here in 1894 he was elected as prosecuting attorney of ' Whitman coanty where he now resides. LOCAL EVENTS OF THE WEEK TOQETHER WITH A PERSONAL MENTION OP THOSE IN THE rtOVINO PANORAIIA OF LOCAL HISTORY "Like the Old Fruit Fairs" is the watch word of the Spokane Interstate Fair management this year. Robert H. Cos grove, who for a number of years has been identified with the Minnesota State Fair, the most successful annual fair in the United States, has been retained as manager of the Interstate Fair this fall. Every effort will be made to provide an exhibition which will be as meritorious, and attract as muoh attention as the old Fruit Fairs used to do. And with this end in view, the premiums have been in creased in all departments, but more par ticularly in the Fruit and Grain classes. The amount of money givtn to fruit alone has been almost doubled, new classes introduced and new divisions made. Allert, a prominent farmer of Menno, will be a candidate for the office of county commissioner, Second district, his card of announcement appearing in our issue of today. Mr. Allert will be remembered by nearly all our people, as for two years he was the trusted and accommodating clerk in the Ritzville Hardware Company establishment, on the corner of Second and D streets. He is farming nearly a thousand acres of land out west of town, and hails from the Second district, while Mr. Fred Kembel is from the First district. He is a married man with an interesting family of wife and several ehildren.
