The finest summer isn’t always fair. “ Tell him the spotted heifer calved In May. She died poor tiling; but that you needn’t mind: Nor bow the constant rain destroyed the hay : But tell him God was ever kind, And when the fever, spread the country o cr, IBs mercy kept the ‘ sickness ’ from our door. " Be sure you tell him how the neighbors caino And cut the corn and stored it iu the barn; "Twould be as well to mention them bv name— Bat Murphv, Ned McCabe, and James M Cam, And big Tim Daly from behind the hill: And say, ujira—Ob, say I missedbiui sull. ’" They came with ready hands our toil to share—'Twas then I missed him most—my own right hand— , I felt, although kind hearts were round me there, The kindest heart beat in a foreign land. ...

LATEST CABLE DESPATCHES. ROME. SECOND EDITION. Improved Condition of tlie Pope. Catholic Easter Concert. [Newspaper Article] — Pilot — 26 April 1873

Catholic Easter Concert. Tlic enterprising Catholic Choral Society, oi Boston, came before the musical E* lie again in a Sacred Concert at Music on Easter Sunday. The society seems to be peculiarly unfortunate in the weather for its entertainments, but on this occasion, notwithstanding that drawback, and the extra Easter services, which detained many, the audience was large. The chorus singing, which, of course, is the essential feature of this society’s efforts was very creditably rendered. It is hardly our province to praise the performance of the Beethoven Quintette Club whose members have won full recognition as thorough artists. It is only to be regretted that the society was not equally happy in the selection of the soprano, Madame Budersdorf. We can only say that whatever this rather expensive acquisition may have been a quarter of a century ago, she was neither in voice, deportment, or even dress, in keeping with what should be expected ou this occasiWnf Mr. John E. Winch us...

Mass. Temperance Diploma. Messrs. J. H. Buffords’ Sons are preparing for the Board of Government a Diploma of Membership for the societies of the Massachusetts C. T. A. Union. The centre-piece consists of a Cross interwoven with the emblems of Faith, Hope, and Charity, surmounting a portrait of Father Mathew. In either corner is a shield bearing the name of one of the cardinal virtues, the whole being surrounded with a border of shamrock leaves, making the design appropriate and beautiful. It will be ready in a few weeks, and will no doubt be highly prized by the receivers. Beverry, Mass., April IG. 1873. To the Editor of The l’llot.
