The Pioneer. CRESS'Y. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 10. [Newspaper Article] — Cressy and Lismore Pioneer and Western Plains Representative — 10 November 1915

Cbe Pioneer. CRESS'S. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 10. Labor may be frankly congratu lated on having dropped a party struggle, the sectional aim of which was becoming so obvious as to disgust all thoughtful and patriotic people. The Referenda proposals were to have been sub mitted on December 11th. Yet on Thursday Mr Hughes inform ed the House of Representative* that the appeal to the people had been abandoned, that the States were prepared to grant certain powers to the Federal authority for the period of the war and a year thereafter. The assurances of the ex-Prime Minister and of his successor that the poll must be taken "though an earthquake shook the Commonwealth" seem ed to still echo in the ears of the members. But they felt that wisdom comes better late than never, and finding Labor in the mind of the lady who "whisper ing 'I will ne'er consent,' consen ted," congratulated it on its more gracious mood. In making the announcement Mr Hughes said: "We shall avoid entering into a campaign wh...

The proposed railway lino from Oororooke to Warrion has been re ferred to tbe Railway Stauding I Committee. There is something akin to a boom on in the Casterton district just now in regard to sheep, and with the high prices ruling for wool hi London, combined with the scar city of stock and abundance of tjraas in all parts of this section of tbe Western district, the excited condition of things need cause no surprise. As an illustration of the boom, it may be mentioned a June lamb was sold last week in the Cas terton sale yards for 36s, the same animal having been Bold with its mother for abont £1, and the ewe is now valued at about £2 in the wool. Bnt the boom referred to is one of much wider significance than this, for it is demonstrating itself by large operations in this class of stock that are now taking place aB Oetween Casterton buyers and New Sonth Wales vendors, the latter of whom have already sold some big lines " off shears" for removal to Caater ton "holdings
