BENALLA POLICE COURT. Tuesday, August 16. (Before Messrs Wills and Sharpe.) [Newspaper Article] — The Benalla Ensign and Farmer's and Squatter's Journal — 19 August 1870

BENALLA POLICE COURT. Tuesday, August 16.   (Before Messrs. Wills and Sharpe.)   Anne Allesey was brought up charged with lunacy. Prisoner had been arrested as a vagrant at Euroa, but the charge had been since changed to one of lunacy, and she was remanded on Satur- day for medical examination. The prisoner had a female child about two years old. Dr Henry said he was of opinion that prisoner was a fit subject to be taken care of. The woman then ad- dressed the Court, stating that she claimed her rights as she was the Queen, and also her costs. The case was then postponed for the attendance of Dr Heath, who was of opinion that the woman was insane. The woman again burst out that she wanted to go to her husband in Tasmania saying that it was not legal to keep her at all, and that she was not a vagrant, as she had money in her pocket. The Bench ordered her to be com- mitted to Beechworth Lunatic Asylum. The poor creature was with difficulty removed, she claimi...
