The North Mine. THE LODE IMPROVED. [BY OUR MINING REPORTER.] [Newspaper Article] — Barrier Miner — 1 April 1889

The North Míil§ * THE LODE IMPROVED. [BY oum MINING REPORTER.] F A SHORT time ago, .when: the Junctiori : panic was at it«, heighty things looked very bad indeed for' that end of the Broken Hill Une ; but since'the exposure of the miserable attempt made to underrate the mine mentioned people have had much more confidence in the place. It was most unfortunate that at about this period a statement should have been made that the North mine had struck the lode, at the three hundred (300) feet level, although not an iota of blame can be in any way attached to the manager of the North mine. On Thursday, March 14, a report of mine appeared in the BAKBIIB MINER, in which I stated that a crosscut had been put in at the three hundred (300) feet level, and which, after going a few feet weBt, had struck galena, which was driven through in a few feet and a horse of coun- try came in. This was proved to be two : feet thick,.- when galena ; again made its appearance. In that report 1 mentioned tha...

Boot Stealers. [Newspaper Article] — Barrier Miner — 1 April 1889

Boot Stealers. Two men, named respectively James McKenzie and Daniel Callaghan, on re- mand, were presented before Mr. Gower, P.M., in the local court to-day; the two   in conjunction on two charges of theft of boots and each separately on a similar charge. The separate charge against O'Callaghan was not proceeded with, as the man who bought the stolen property in good faith could not swear to the accused as the vendor. The other three cases were, however, fully made out. The first charge was that the two men stole a natty-looking pair of lady's yellow shoes   which were hanging outside the shop of Messrs Murton and Buck, on Wednes- day last. On the following day these articles were offered for sale to one Thos. Pool, who, on payment of 3s., became   the owner. Mr. Buck identified the shoes by a private mark. O'Callaghan pleaded guilty, but said that McKenzie had nothing to do with the mat- ter and that he himself was only in company with the r...

STRAY NOTES. THE HOSPITAL FINANCES. [Newspaper Article] — Barrier Miner — 1 April 1889

' STRAY -NOTES. -. THE HOSPITAL ¡FINANOES. A VERY sensible suggestion was made by the chairman at that meeting'of the hos- pital committee whence emanated so many dismal groansrespecting the lack of cash with which to carry on the work of the institution.
