The Engineer in Local Government. IN QUEENSLAND. [Newspaper Article] — Construction and Local Government Journal — 1 June 1914

The Engineer in Local Government. IN QUEENSLAND. A meeting of the Queensland Section of the Insti tute was held at their rooms, Treasury Chambers, recently. The chairman (Mr. J. S. Louttit) presided, and submitted a report detailing the work done to date, which showed satisfactory progress as regards membership. Mr. W. Huxham read an interesting paper upon the National Roads Conference held in Sydney last month, under the auspices of the Insti tute of Local Government Engineers of Australasia, at which representatives from the various State Sec tions were present, including three members from the Queensland Section. The Architects. THE "SYDNEY" BUILDING ACT. An Interesting Talk Round Things. [Newspaper Article] — Construction and Local Government Journal — 1 June 1914

The Architects. THE 'SYDNEY' BUILDING ACT. ? ? An Interesting: Talk Round. Things. ? Despite the small attendance 'at' 'the last general meeting of the N.S.W. Institute of Architects, an interesting discussion ensued on the draft Building Act, and further helpful suggestions. were made. That the- measure, shall be a Sydney! one is appar ently accepted as conclusive by the Institute. The idea held is that, just as a gift horse must not be looked in the mouth,.- the Institute, after its long striving, must not at this juncture criticise the offer ing of the Government, provincial and inadequate though it be. 'This might be regarded as 'good policy,''- but it isn't an attitude ; expected from a body whose constitution embraces the State. The 'little ' Sydncysiders' who influenced this latest display of parochialism justify their action on the. plea that 'they must be careful.'' No one sug gested that they should be Otherwise than careful, and certainly not rash. ' But -there is such a ...
