TO THE SHIPPERS OP A74MA. PER FAVOR OF TILE- EXAMINEU. THE FIGHT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. [Newspaper Article] — Examiner — 23 June 1860

THE FIGHT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. As much interest has been excited by the contest between Tom Sayers and the Benicia Boy, for the 'pugilistic championship of England, I send a brief report from the papers, in the language of the ring. . For the first fc.w rounds, little was done, except ing the Yankee getting at Tqm Sayers' " upper works." The men then wariped to.busines, and it became evident that they bad 'screwed their courage up to the sticking place, and had no notion of disappointing their friends and patrons.. The " Benicia Boy" had been charged with want of pluck, and some went e?en so far as to hint that lie was a coward ; but no charge could be more unfounded. He stood in the ring like a man who had made up his mind to conquer or die. Never, in the course of a large experience, - had we seen a gamer bit of stuff, or a fellow who showed more " bottom." He was smiling 'nearly every round, and when Tom Sayers was knocking round him, seemed to enjoy what appearel to be a good j...
