The Cooma to Bombala Railway. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 17 February 1906
The Gooma to Bombala Railway. / » — Thk agitation at present being conducted by the Bombala people (and which' has .secured the co operation of ninny centres, 'down the mountain') for the extension of the railway from Bainisdalo to the A.S.-W. border by the Victorian Government once more brings into prominence tho long-neglected pro posal for the extension of the line from Cooma to Bombala. Fede ration has been responsible for a lot of. things, and it may bo that if the growth of an Australian sentiment prompts Boinbalu to throw aside its ' -loyalty to the mother' state' and ask Victoria to build a railway to tap the great tableland district whoso natural outlet is Melbourne. Tathra Shipping Facilities. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 17 February 1906
Tathra Shipping Facilities. The Budget has' more than once written in regretful protest of the wretched shipping facilities at the port of Tathra, and the primitive and altogether inadequate storage accommodation. Tathra is the most important port on the South Coast, and yet the arrangements for the shipping of cargo and the storage of goods are altogether behind those at Bermagui. At the latter place there is a pier with a double line of tramway measuring about 150 feet by which the trucks can be run from the ship's side to the shed or waggons. The goods shed is capacious and substantially built and in every way up to the requirements of, shippers. And the toad from Cobargo to the port is well metalled, and with perhaps n couple of cuttings or deviations would be equal to any thorough fare in the State And the impor tance of the districts the port serves demands this much and ' even' more. But what of Tathra? The wharf looks like one of the structures one sees on some of pur rivers...
A BEETLE'S MISSION. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 17 February 1906
A BEETLE'S MISSION. A wuiTKH in a Sydney paper re produces the remarks of some children who were discussing 'beetles': — . Little six-year-old held up a gorgeous green and gold .specimen which he called a 'fairies' messen ger.' The following was the con versation in effect. I onty wish I could ' rcproduc'o. it in tho real childish phraseology, but I'm not clever enough, nor witty enough. Charles Dickons could have done it beautifully, though. ?'When I feel sad and unhappy, I always think I'm as miserable as a beotle, because I think they are tho most unhappiest things in the world. Did you ever see a happy beetle? — one just eating about, or flying through tho air, and buzzing happily. I never did, Thoy aro always in troublo, . lying on tho front door mat, waving their legs, or hanging themselves against hot lamp-glasses, or getting themselves out of spiders' webs. What's a beetle supposed to bo doing when it's not in trouble? The other day, when we were at the Spit, a beotlo was wa...
