NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 2 May 1894

NOTES AND COMMENTS. | The credulity of huniau nature was fally exemplified last wnek by the harvest reaped by t.ho various chevaliers d'indimtrie who patronised our Show. The victims of these gentry were not all of the " Verdpnt Green " character, some of our local residents who arc considered to be more than passing shrewd falling into the snares. No ime, of coarse, in this enlightened age believes that these men have come here to benefit the community at their own expense, and each person, who has dealings with them, while recognising someone will probably be " had," hopes it will be the other fellow, and that he is to be the one used as an advertisement to draw on the foolish speculators. If some of those who lost their money were aaked to act as " buttooers " they would be indignant, but the fact remains that it is only the hope that they may be impressed into the service, and given a return by the operator that others may be " drawn on," that can account, for their patron age o...

THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND MACQUARIE AD[?]OCATE. Wednesday, May 2, 1894. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 2 May 1894

THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND JIACQUARIE ADYOCATE. Wednesday, War 2, 1804. The Show that has just closed must be regarded, with mixed feelings by those most interested in the future of the district. The large attendance of visitors iB a reason for congratulation, but the pleasure felt at this happy feature must be greatly dimin ished by the unfavourable ?criticisms of the exhibits made by every journal represented. It is chiefly on the score of lack of quantity that our critics take the exhibits to task, though in same cases the quality is also severely commented upon. No one "who noted the exhibits can blame the critics, as instead of the show serving to advertise the agricultural and pastoral capabilities of this important district, the small number of entries would give the impres sion to a visitor that our re sources in these directions are of an extremely limited char acter. The chief ostensible ob jects of agricultural shows are the encouragement of scientific agriculture, and the sti...
