SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT. COUNCIL ACAIN REJECTS WAGE8 BOARD8 RE80LUTI0N8. [' Tn»th'» ' Spwial Swrke.] ADELAIDE, Wednesday Night. The Wages Boards resolutions of the Legislative Assembly, which had been previously rejected by the Council, and again submitted to that body, were again thrown out this evening in the Council, by nine votes to four. A Bill to authorise the purchase and working on behalf of South Australia, certain coal minos situated in New South Wales, was circulated to-day. The measure covers an agreement en tered into by the Government on March 28th, with Alexander Sheddon, of New castle (Now South Wales), and the Bill authorises the purchase, at a sum not ex ceeding £20,000. The properties arc. to be vested in the Minister of Mines, and the Treasurer is given power to provide funds ' not ex ceeding in the aggregate £150,000' for developing the mine. ? The Railway Commissioner is given the priority of right to the purchase of the coal from such mine. .

. CRAND UNITED ODDFELLOWS. A meeting of the No. 2539 Silver Star Branch of the G.U.O.O.F. Lodge was held at the Trades Hall last night, when there was a large attendance, about 30 members being present. Three new members were initiated. District Master W. Blows, who has just returned from Sydney, presented a report on- a special meeting of the Committeo of Manage ment, which had met in Sydney to dis cuhb the subvention to Friendly Societies, as accepted by the order. The effect of this will be to increase members' sick pay. The meeting decided to centralise the Sick Fund, the alteration to come into force on the first of January, 1009. The motion in connection with this mat ter was carried unanimously. Bro. Blows was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his able and valuable report in connection with the subvention grant ed by tho Government to Friendly So cieties.
