13' WON'T WORK. It is very strange that while Mr. Irvin takes great pains lo impress it upon ihe voters of some of the Democratic townships, _*uch as Bradford, Brady. &c. thai he is " (is good e democrat ns there is in tin county," he should take _rrrcntet pains, e ven lo the making of his maiden speech in Bul'er_, to prove lo ihe stubborn whigs there lhat he never was a democrat, or that hr was nol a Democrat when elected to the State Senate. There is something very strange in this. Why shou'd he be b Federalist there, nnd a Democrat here' What rver others mav think of this kind of don hie dealing, in our opinion it won ' t work. •Men of sense, free born and not more than ha'f blind, will see that iheie is ' something rotten in Denmark. From iho Armstrong Democrar. MR. IRVIN AND THE BANK. Mr. Irvin denies, it is said, that he ever was a Democrat, nnd that his vote in layor of the Bank of the United States, was not therelore an act of political treachery. We make no doubt that Penrose, llurden and Dickey, would also repudiate the charge ot democracy if it was preferred against them. If Mr. Irvin never was a democrat, how did it happen that he was twice elected to the Legislature by the Democratic party f That party is not in ihe habit, we believe, of _elevatiug whigs lo office. The denial therelore is sheer nonsense, and cannot deceive. Kven in his address, Mr. Irvin attempts to regain ihe confidence of the democracy ol Cletirfield county, by plca/ling in extenuation ol his offence, that some prominent demo crals in his district had advised hitn to vole lor the Dank. The mere apology lor that vote is _ua ndmisHun, ( hat he. had ilonc something which tlie people wished to have explained. We have fully examine...

Wh;it is, said Abroad. "When the present Whig candidate for Congress was last before the people ol your coonly for their suffrages, he begged —DBy, he _beseeched democrats to support himonce more—to relieve him that time, and he would never tomo before them ngain. Yes—he even pledged his word and honor to democrats, that if they would sacrifice their principles by voting for or electing him, he would remain neutral in politics—he would never take a part for a federal candidate against them. This must yet be fresh in their memories. Did lie redeem this pledge ? or did he wickedly betray them as he did when a member of the Senate? Let his conduct during the last Presidential campaign answer the question. Let his warm and decided course1 in favor of Henry Clay, and his abase of democrats, who would not go with him, show what reliance may be placed in his word. We lake Ihe following cxtrucls from u letter irom n citizen of Indiana county, who is intimnicly _acquaint ted with tho...
