Gettysbupq and _Diekinson . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 9 November 1898
Gettysbupq and _Diekinson . It is with pleasure that we announce the practical completion of the agreement with Dickinson , probably one of the most significant events in late years along athletic lines . The agreement , as drawn up by Dr . Stauffer and the faculty committee and Athletic Association officers , was presented and adopted by the associations of both colleges , and nothing remains but to sign it . It provides for a foot-ball game , a track-meet and two base ball games each year , with full arrangements as to time , place , officials and guarantees . There is one item that is especially notable in these days of college professionals , and of degredation of sport in order to win—that all members of the teams shad be bona fide students in the collegiate , law , or theological departments of our respective institutions . The agreement will remain in force for three yeais . As is well known there have been no athletic relations between the two colleges since the base ball se...
The Weekly Gettysburgian . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 9 November 1898
The Weekly Gettysburgian . A number of tunes it lias been necessary to speak concerning the absolute necessity of having a good scmb appear upon the _ficlc to give the Varsity hard practice . _Eveiy student knows that matcna . is not lacking and that it would be an easy matter to have two strong scrub teams if the men would only turn out . Beside ; those who play on the scrub are working to uphold the athletic prestige of the College and even if they do not get much applause for theii work yet in standing up and lesisting the rushes and plunges of the Varsity , they , to a very great extent help to win the victories . Dickinson and Selinsgrove loom up in the near future and we know every college man wants to see Dickinson held down to a small score and a...
SOCIETIES . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 9 November 1898
SOCIETIES . PH 1 L 0 . Herman , 99 , will represent Philo at the committee meeting of the State Oratorical Association which will be held in Philadelphia on the 25 th inst . Messrs . Fleck , 02 , Poffenberger , 02 , Gracy , 03 , and Reinart , 03 were elected members last Friday evening . Refeience lias before been made to the gradual improvement in our literary performances . This improvement is still continuing as the last few programs have shown . It is especially evident in the essays produced and read during the last few weeks ; they were excellent productions and showed careful piepaiation . The declamations , orations , and debates , while they aie noticeably better than they were at the beginning of the term , do not reach the high standard attained in the essays . From this fact we may conclude that we should concentrate our efforts to improvement in the matter of delivery . Since we are called upon for a peiformance only once in several weeks , they should all , in every re...
