NOTES OF THE DAY j [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 18 June 1898
NOTES OF THE DAY j UNCLE SAM will have no trouble in raising all the cash he requ res for the prosecution of the war with Spain ., If there had been doubt on that head in the mind of anyone , the way in which the people of the country have hastened to subscribe to the new loan for $ 200 , 000 , 000 must have set that doubt forever at rest . Any man with $ 20 in cash to spare may become a bondholder , and the plain people , they of moderate means but rich in patriotism , are doing their best to make the loan in truth a popular one . In Chicago all the application blanks sent out by the treasury department were exhausted in a few hours , and hundreds of would-be creditors of the nation were sent away in disappointment from the sub-treasury . The prospects are that the entire amount will be over-subscribed many times , and we hope that the bonds will never be permitted to get into the hands of any but first purchasers . But should the people of small cash reserves fail to take advantag...
The Farmers' Forum [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 18 June 1898
The Farmers Forum The Farmers Forum Invites communications on all subjects from whatever point of view , the editor of THE VOICE assuming no responsibility whatever for tho Ideas expressed . No communication should exceed 300 words in length . Socialists Practically Considered To the Editor : —A Texas ; socialist writes me in reply to my letter in The Farmers Voice of May 28 , and sends also a couple of pages of a socialist paper known as the Appeal to Reason , of Girard , Kan . He says : I will ask you to figure a little on probabilities , and he then proceeds on competition , wealth and ownership . I should say that it is all probabilities with the socialist , all theory , all Utopia . Here is Debs , who has been seeking to start a colony for some time , and not $ 2 , 500 has yet been raised for the treasury , and we hear from outside sources that only eighty persons have enrolled for the colony , while Debs Chicago Social Democrat has as yet made no mention of the eighty at all ,...

LANDS IN WISCONSIN [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 18 June 1898
LANDS IN WISCONSIN Are now as desirable as any in the market . The lands , particularly , in the northern part of Wisconsin , are being rapidly taken up by actual settlers . The most salable are the timber and meadow lands now ranging in price from $ 6 . 00 to $ 12 . 00 per acre . A few months-hence their value will be greatly increased . For a home or for investment no luckier chance in the West has ever before been offered . Now is the time to invest . No better farming land exists anywhere . No greater results can be obtained anywhere . Schools and churches abound everywhere . Nearby markets for all farm products . Wisconsin is one of the banner states of the West . • For further information address or call upon W . E . Powell , General Immigration Agent , 410 Old Colony Building , Chicago , Ills .
