Copyright, 1804, kHE winter of 180 was memorable on ac count of many things; bat to me it was chiefly remarkable for having1 given me my younar bride. We Were spending par honeymoon in the lotas-eating land, and had taken np oar quarters at that admirable hns telery known as "Mena house, which stands at the foot of the plateau where the great pyramids of Gizeh arc so ma jestically enthroned. It was in truth a halcyon time, to be marked in our memories with the whitest of stones. -. One slight drawback there was cer tainly, bat it was a mere crumple in car rose leaf. The Bedouins would never leave as alone. Wherever we went they insisted on accompanying us; it was impossible to get rid of them, but they were withal so polite and good tempered that we could not find it in our hearts to be angry. The only way to avoid the pests was to carry out our wanderings by moonlight. The Arabs believe firmly that "El-Ahram" are haunted, and will not on any ac count venture near the ruins after ni...

In some incom prehensible way the moon's rays, in tensified or otherwise affected by the lenses, are ably to act on some hidden machinery probably hydraulic to such an extent that the huge block of stone is wont to fall and rise periodi cally at certain seasons, dependent on the lunar phases.
