What Organ First Relapses in Slumber. It is said by scientists to be fact a that all our senses do not slumber simultaneously, but that they fall into a happy state of insensibility one after another. The eyelids t take the lead and obscure sight, b the sense of taste is the next to lose its susceptibility, then follow d smelling, hearing, and touch; the e last named being the lightest sleeper and most easily aroused. It is curious that, although the sense of smell is of the first. to slumber, it is the last to awake. L Hearing, after touch, soonest re gains consciousness. Certain mu scles and part of the body begin to sleep before others. Commen cing with the feet, the slumber ous influence works its way gra- t dually upward to the center of < nervous action. This will explain t the necessity of having the f~t comfortably warm before sound sleep is possible.-Scientific Amer ican. Louisiana Wheat. The subject of wheat cultiva tion in Southwest Louisiana is at- ] tracting much attention and holds I out fruitful promise. The Lake Oharles American is urging this ] diversfication of the crops with intelligence and earnestness, 1 pointing out these important ad- I vantages: In the first place, the time of I planting it comes in the fall just at the close of the rice harvest, and the time to harvest it comes I in May just after the rice is plan ted; so it will not interfere either la planting or harvest time with rice.
