Presenting scholarships Sherrill Miller (from left), community relations coordinator for Blue Cross of Southern California, presents a nursing scholarship check for $7OO to East Los Angeles City College students Tonette Miller, Carmen Cortes, Marina Robledo and instructor Lewis Amendolo. East Los Angeles City College is one of 32 schools in Southern California to receive scholarship funds from the Blue Cross Plan totaling $10,250 annually.

Offer piano classes for moms and tots The non-profit Los Angeles Music and Art School now includes on their teaching staff twelve professional piano teachers, who specialize in various types of lessons for different ages. The school has a program for children of pre-school age who have a piano lesson in which the mother also participates. In this way the mother can help the child every day at home in his practice. The mother also learns to play piano. The school provides instruction on a non-profit basis for all instruments, voice as well as several kinds of Dance and Art, All music lessons are individual and not group lessons. Regular recitals are held on the first and third Friday of each, month. Free classes are offered in manners and courtesy for children, poetry for children, music theory and a children's chorus. Bilingual training bill introduced Assemblyman Art Torres (D-56th) recently announced he is coauthoring Assembly Bill 1999, dealing with bilingual education. Torres said, “At the present time there exists no training program aimed specifically for teachers under waiver, seeking bilingual cross cuiltural certification. This measure prposes to establish the state training assistance program to fill the current void." The state training assistance program will become effective immediately if signed into law, and will be administered by the office of bUingual-biculturol education within the department of education. Lost him because of a terrible fire in an adjacent clothing store on Brooklyn Ave. The fire demolished the entire clothing store, but it also caused a lot of damage at Jack's Discount Food Market at 2536 Brooklyn Ave. Many of us remember Jack’s when be first opened at Brooklyn &amp; St. Louis Sts. many, many years ago.
