ynnwP(DHOT Page 2 The Brand September 14 1995 Letters to the Editor It has come to my attention that there is somewhat of a controversy surrounding Dam-It the Dog a popular subject around the time of Orientation. I believe that a university such as this one relies on its tradition as. much as anything else. My grandfather once said to me "You don't know where you're going until you've seen where you've been." There is a lot of truth in that. In this instance I am standing neutral in the sense that I am for the reflection of the past but I respect the views of those who may interpret a certain dog's name as vulgar. In a time of political correctness where do you draw the line? These two letters express separate views on the same subject but both have a certain validity. But opinions are individualistic in nature so derive your own opinion on the situation and realize that it is one inalien- able right that we are all entitled to. -Trenten Hilburn editor-in-chief Let me begin by sayin...

ifHWi Page 4 The Brand I September 21 1995 Opinion Poll In general how do you feel about the U.N. Women's Conference? f I don't know much about the specifics. Amy Klrby-Sophomore f f At first the Women's Conference doesn't sound like a bad thing. The Brand I September 21 1995 IWMBOTi Page 7 El Guapo lays it on thick By Ryan Shelton staff writer Commentary As I headed to my usual table at Pancho's I happened to glimpse El Guapo inhaling a flauta in the corner. Seated with him was Hugo Hambonc a compulsive spender. Hoping to get a free meal I headed their way. I had been hopelessly depressed all day. 1 thought if I gorged myself maybe I could forget some of the terrible news I'd just read in the morning paper. "Bosnians Slaughter Serbs" "Hurricane Marilyn Devastates Virgin Islands" "Prison Count Rising Rapidly." It was more than I could bear. I began to explain my fragile state to El Guapo. "Are all those poor people destined to suffer? Why does fate have to be so mysteri- ousr "There's no mystery about it boy. All we have to do is find out which Nebraska football players were breaking curfew last night and most of the world's disasters could be explained. "You think you've got problems?
