Murehison Agricultural Society. A general meeting of members of the Murchieon Agricultural Society was held at the Mechanics' Institute ou Saturday afternoon last, when there were present —Dr Jno. V. Heily (president), and Messrs H. Trevaskis, C. J. Francis, A. J. Trevaskis, J. A, Orr, J. Burch, J. Kildea, W. G. Brisbane and D. J. Shewan (secretary). Apologies for non-attendance were re ceived from Messrs Parker and Cassidy. A budget- of correspondence, having relation solely to donations for the forth coming show, was received. Messrs Burch and Orr reported that they had been to Melbourne during the past fortnight collecting on behalf of the society. They had been very favorably received in most places, and they con sidered the amount collected was most encouraging. There were still several donations to come to band and they pre ferred not to make known the result until next meeting, by which rime they would have received definite replies from a ! number of prospective donors. RUSH WORTH — STANHOPE RAILWAY. RECOMMENDATION OF COM MITTEE. The following is the recommendation of the. Railways Standing Committee as printed In the report presented to Parlia ment last week : — " As the Lands Purchase and Manage ment Board has acquired about 20,000 acres comprising Stanhope Closer Settle ment Area, at an approximate cost of £200,000, to settle people there on small irrigated allotments to be used chiefly for mixed farming and fruit growing, the committee is of opinion that nearer rail way facilities are necessary to assist tn making that closer settlement scheme a shccess. After giving consideration to all the suggested routes and the statements made in support of them, the committee recommends the construction of a 5ft. 3in. railway starting at Rush worth and terminating at the north end of Stanhope Estate adjacent to the Byrneside-Corop 3-chain road, a length of about 11 miles, at an estimated cost of approximately £39,400.
