Accident to Our Roads Super. [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express and Tumbarumba Post — 31 July 1900

Accident to Our Roads .. Super. ? In the last issue of our. contemporary, the ' Tumut Times,' is contained brief mention of an accident ? which o.ccurred to Mr. Adam, our Boads Superintendent. It appears that Mr. Adam's conveyance was not strong enough to withstand the heavy wear and tear necessitated by the bad state of the roads travelled over, and a break-down resulted. Our contem porary mentions the fact that a break occurred in a part of the vehicle which is usually the. strongest. This, and no more. ' Now, this mishap appeals to us a strong illustration of the necessity of roads being kept in good repair, if vehicles and lives are to remain intact. Our contemporary cannot, or will not, see any moral in the trap accident to our Eoads Superintendent. We are sure our readers will agree' with our view, however, that if no other cause, will enlighten Mr. Adam as to the necessity of repairing our thorough fares, surely, when his own conveyance ' turns dog on him,' he will' realise t...

Mr. Sandy Looks for ' His Pips. FOB ' THE ' EXPRESS.' ' ' : . :(By 'The Cynic') No. VII. .',..' .' Wijeke have you put my .pipe, Maria?' asked Mr. Sandy, after looking behind each vase on the mantelpiece. ' Why, have you lost it, John ??' ' No, I haven't lost it,' he growled. But you've gone and planted it, and forcot where, I suppose. Why in the name of creation can't you leave things alone. I always put things where I can find them, if they are not moved. I know I put my pipe here, and you've taken it away.' ' I never touched it, Johu ?' ' Of course you didn't. It's the old yarn. Why can't a man get a woman to be as methodical as himself ?'; Here the old man put his hands be hind his back, and frowned at his wife. ' After all these years,' he said, ' one would .think you knew my ways. All my trouble with you has gone for nothing,. and you are just as careless as you were the day I married you.' 'You. didn't- tell me I was careless then, John.' ' I didn't know it. But I soon found ...
