INSURANCE COMPANIES. (From tito Sydney Empire, of June -I.) The Chancellor of (ho Exchequer has given some very startling monitions on the subject of Insurance Companies, bringing forward facts illustrative of the astounding insecurity of ninny of these companies, nnd pointing out tlio cause of this insecurity in the peculiar nature of their business. In ninoteen j ours 259 companies censed to oxist, 1G1 transferred their policies, and 57 w-ere wound up in Chancery. And even where companies go on «vilh no such ignominious termination of their career, many persons who had' ii right, to hope that they ivould secure to their families n substantial benefit by insurnnto have been ««ofitlly disappointed. In ono society during five years, 18,0UU policies lapsed out of 8G.O00 ¡ and in nuother 70,000 lapsed out of 535,000. Kingsford. Tliero w as a lurgo attendance of ladies and, gentlemen at tho tea, which wits a very good^oue, but tho subsequent proceedings wore not of a ehnrncter usually expected at meetings of a similar kind held m places of worship.
