AUSTRALIAN BUSHRANGING. ? ? i ii'**'ii i — i r' the zeair/ly dats. By CHARLES WHITE. Chapter VII. — Continued. 1 roceeuing to the river hocampeu with his men until daylight ap peared, 'and then instituted a search for tracks on either aide for n distance of about 20 miles along the river's course. Not finding tracks he was satisfied that the es cort robbers had not yet crossed . the river, and he at once pushed ' on through the bush toward the Weddin Mountains, a locality which he knew was resorted to by the district banditti as a safe re fuge. Early on Thursday morning the pursuers reached Wheogo, and as they were now in a district where bushrangers were thought more of than the police, they became even more cautious and watchful. As they reached Ben Hall's house, the blacktracker saw a horseman com ing down a ridge of the mountain, and immediately pointed him out to the sergeant. But as the tracker saw the horse man, the horseman saw the tracker. The former turned upon his tracks,...

(Act 11., sc. 7). rni:uB is apparently some money in the Southern State. yet. The Victorian Govern men t put a Joan af £1,000,000 on Hit! rloealniarkut ind no less than ^2,0S7,:i'J0 wore subscribed. There is a report thai Carruthers intends to put a loan of £2,000,000 on the London market nt mi early date. The Bi;hui:t recommends Ihol'remieij to follow Bent's example and give our own people a chance to take up the loan. There's nothing makes a citizen so patriotic as being the creditor of his own country. And it can't be said that N.S. THEY SAY: That tlie familiar form of C. J. Cun ningham was ini.HPed at Saturduy'i match — few have done more for Begu cricket than 'CJ.' That a srilendid list of xnccial omen has been given for the Pambula Show to come off on 21st nnd 22nd instant. That tho Wol umlu roofs look well and some Hen.Hational roturiiH are expected at nn early dnte. That on Saturday t--o ratepayers would have liked to liavu been able to return at least four aldermen. That Victoria raised her loan locally ' and N.S.W.'h Reform Government went to London for its millions ; and That Carruthers surely cannot plead scarcity of money — the other day Co hen, president of the Commercial Bank of Sydney, lamented that his institution hod to send £1 ,000,000 to England for investment. That the rabbit destruction fund lias reached nearly £10,000. That it's a mistake to suppo.se that a girl with dreamy eye's isn!t wide nwake —as a matter of fact she is seldom caught napping. Interdistrict Cricket. TILBA v. BEGA. Tiik intordistrict match between the Tilba Cricket Association Eleven and the representatives of Southern Counties was played on the Showground on Saturday. Play was to have commenced at 10 o'clock, and the visitors were on the ground at that tiiiie or close to it. But it seems a peculiarity of South Coast cricketers that the home team should always be late, and the Bega team were not ready to play until 11 o'clock. Three of the team chosen to play for Tilba did not put in an appearance — Rus. Boxsell, G. Payne and Andy. C. Bown, the emeigency, took the place of R. Boxsell, who from re cent bereavement was prevented from playing. Ernest Tarlinton, of Dry River, made up the eleven of the visitors. Bega at the com mencement of the play was without the services of D. and A. Buckett, and F. Rogers and Tas. Bland fielded in their places. About 12 o'clock the two Pambula men ar rived and went to the field. Cook (Eden) and V. Tarlinton did not put in a...

The Municipal Election, Saturday whs a big day in Bcga, the municipal election, the meeting of the Southern Districts Factories Directors' Association, ami the inter-district cricket match enuaR ing the attention of the public. The -'municipal election was the best contest -Bcga has put up for years, both lay reason of the num ber of candidates and their strong personality. The ratepayers could hardly make a mistake by voting for any one of the six — all were townsmen, who had the respect and esteem of their fellows and took a warm interest in all public ques tions. When the nominations first appeared .public opinion tipped Mr. H. M.,Blonificltl to occupy the proud position as bead of. the poll, and the result showed the tip to be a correct estimate. Following is the result of the polling: H. M. Blufnfiekl 137, W. Manning 123, F. Bland 121, Jas. Rixon 110, J. E. Jackson. 93, \V. II. Braine31. - The Council Clerk, Mr. T, J. Owing to the rise in the price of leather several thousand boot and shoe manufacturers and retailers in England are forming an asso ciation for the purpose of increas ing the price of boots and shoes. Tho observant man, who was lookins out of the iront window remarked : ' That a man who turned tho corner a moment ago will probably go into tho fifth house from here.' The in quisitive woman put her head out of the window to see ' It was the fourth house,' she said. ' That is near enough. I new he would stop somewhere within the next six houses or so.' 'But how can you tell ?' 'I could tell by the door key grab.1 Most men have it. Not one man in a hundred waits uniil he gets to his own front door to take out his' latchkey. As soon as he gets within six or seven bouses of his own home, he unconsciously, dives into his pockets.'
