THURSDAY. STEALING A BULL. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Times — 16 May 1857

Thursday STEALING A BULL. Thomas Digges was indicted for having stolen a bull, the property of Alexander Busby and another. The offence was committed at or near Cassilis, on or about the 4th of March, 1857. The prisoner pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr. Dalley. William Noble, overseer to Messrs. A. and W. Busby, of Cassilis, deposed that on the 2nd of March last he missed from the run a small red imported bull, branded A BY on the rump ; the brand was illegible, in conse quence of the bull having been branded whilst standing ; the hair had grown over the branded part : as soon as the bull was missed, chief constable Moore and deponent started off in pursuit in the direction of Mr. Bowman's station; they overtook a bullock team about 20 or 128 miles from Cassilis, and the prisoner had charge of the team ; deponent did not know the prisoner, nor did he say anything to him ; Mr. Moore stopped the team, and told the prisoner he wanted the imported bull which was then in the te...
