FOOTBALL. St Kilda v. Melbourne. [Newspaper Article] — Malvern Standard — 10 August 1907

FOOTBALL. St Kilda ». Melbourne. Up like a rocket down like a Stick V, just about describes the position of the Saints. Melbourne this season has not proved a strong team, bot with three or four prominent players absent it looked like a gninea to a gooseberry on St. Kilda, but to the disappointment of their supporters again they lost. Winning the toss the red legs, favored with a strong wind, they put on 5 goals and 2 be hinds, their kicking being excellent. Saints scored one goal and it was felt that with the wind the deficiency would be easily wiped out, bot the back play of the visitors was so good that half time saw them 9 points ahead. In the second half Barwick did not come out, but, still the third quarter gave hopes of Saints winning as they were only 11 points behind and had the wind with them. Bot their general play was so stiff and kicking so badly, with no concerted play whatever, the red and blacks won by 17 points. It is scarcely likely that the public next year will s...

Arno¡d Bennert con tributes one of his finely studied vignettes from the life of the five towns, and a strong theme from the life of a remote Bril iah Colony is vividly presented by Harjld Bindioss.
