R.S.L. CLUB NOTES [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 20 September 1947

R.S.L. CLUB NOTES Diggers, are you ashamed of the fact that you are diggers ? Are you ashamed of your club rooms ? or is it your natural indolence that keeps you away from the League meetings ? At a meeting held in your. club rooms on Friday, September 12, only 17 members attended. This is a very poor attendance in view of the number of members we have on our Sub-Branch roll. The meeting held was mainly for the purpose of thrashing out what we are going to do with the funds collected for our War Memorial. It was unanimously agreed that the money should be put to some utilitarian use and not for the purpose of building another monu ment. There were many very good ideas put up and no doubt had there been more members ?present an even greater number would have been brought to light. No decision has yet been reached. It was . also decided that the League should send a donation to the Legacy Club in response to an appeal from them for help. This club is doing a good job and should be sup...

COFFEE REMOVED FROM TEA CONTROL REGULATIONS [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 20 September 1947

COFFEE REMOVED FROM TEA CONTROL REGULA TIONS The Minister for Trade and Cus toms, Senator Ben Courtice an nounced that on the recommenda tion of the Tea Control Board, he had decided to remove coffee from the Tea Control Regulations. This would mean that the Common wealth Government will withdraw immediately from the purchasing field and hand the industry back to the normal importers. The time is opportune for this course, because stocks of cofFee in Aus tralia are estimated to be sufficient for 12 months requirements. Importers will have every op portunity of exploring overseas markets before committing them selves to purchases. Senator Courtice said that his decision to remove coffee from control was consistent with the policy of the Government to with draw from controls whenever possible.
