SYDNEY JOrilNGS. 1 '^' (Br 3. A.) The steadily increasing excitement anent the Dean case rerohed the painfully interne stage on Tuesday evening la»t when Mr Maagher rose tu hU place in the Assembly for the purpose of replying to the charge made against him by Sir Julian SalamonB. For hours before the time fixed for the opening ot Parliament tbore was a surging crowd in the precinots of the Chamber, many of whom were ' looking for tneinben' to obtain entry to the Speaker's gallery, whilst ten times as many more were waiting for the moment ftt which the strangers' gal lery would be thrown open to the public When Mr Meagher addressed the Speaker, immediately upon the House assembling, therefore, the Chamber was crowded in every part, the ladies' gallery being packed to suffocation by fair women clad in oos tutne» which would not look dowdy if worn on Cap day. THE DEAN CASE. Fresh Developments. The Chemist's Statement Crick on the Warpath. What Meagher Says. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 8 October 1895

THE DEAN CASE, Fresh Developments. The Chemist's Statement. Crick on the Warpath. What Meagher Says. The interest in tbe Dean case— locally— dur- ing the last week was intense. Our Sydney correspondent kept us well jtosted daily, ana the telegrams which were deipatched were issue i from the ' Argus ' office promptly, and were eager y scanned by the townspeople. The telegrams on Saturday containing the startling intelligence «f the arrest of Messrs W. P. ur.cK ana tv. it. meajner, aisn ireorge Dean, ou a charge of conspiracy, created a profound sensation. Various were the opinions ex pressed on the Mouther-Salomons controversy. Both evidently have here, the same as else where, blind followers and bliad detractors who could see nothing but good in one and b.vi in another, according to their notions,an-l vica versa. Indeed, as matter* etanrl at present, the subject of the controversy is thread-bare, for it lias been dUcussed from all points of view ; the strong parts in the speeches of...

BUFFALO COHCEBT. The Buffalo Ministrel and Variety Com pany's entertaimeut. for the benefit of Pro fessor ITiebsrmann, held in tbe Public Hall, on Friday, was fairly well patronised. TJu entertainment from a musical .stanSpoint, could not bo compared with some ot those which th*y have already placed on the boards. The drawback in the present in stance was due to the absence of three of the eompany, whose places had t- be ttken by persons who did not take part in the re bersahf, and consequently did not know t-hftir ntrti vai-v wall rTh» baaamiI nat*fc **f the programme was enlivened by the mem bers of the Variety Ministrel Company, the clever doings of a contortionist, and the dancing and singing of two girls rigged up in tights, being evidently appreciated by the audience. The following is tbe programme: —Parti. — Overture, -'Rubinstein's Grand March,' Hcrr Liebermann ; Openiofr Chorus, Company ; Comic Song, ' I Can't Change It,' Mr Fester ; Song and chorus, ' Still I Love Thee,' M...
