flic Political Present It is questionable if the political world ever presented such a BtraDgb aspect as it.doea to-day. In Europe, ancient enemiesare become modern friends, and Franco and England, forgetting Fontenay and Waterloo, forgetting national caste and national creed, fight shoulder to shoulder with Mnliammedan Turkey. tf he Lectures Tho second of the proposed conrse of Lectures before the Institute, was given by Mr. C. C. Burleigh, on llic evening of the 6lh instant, ' at the Court House, and, we are happy to say, to a large audience. Tho lecturer handled his subject in his usual ablo manner, and to lbs profit of oil who are willing lo accept truth in whatover guise, and by whomsoever presenled. We have henrd It objected lo by one or two only, who, we think are unneccssarily.Bcnsilive. Il was full of promise to human nature, which the lecturer thought capable of a much belter approximation lo the Divine than it has yet attained, It had for its basis the law of Progression—a law whicb lias come to be pretty generally acknowledged by intelligent men in all parts of tho civilized world. Contrary to the predictions of the faint-hearted, the lectures have paid their way so far; and there is encouragement in llie fuel thai the receipts of the second lecture exceeded those of the first by a hand...

Indictment of Theodore Parker. Our Courl rpporl this morning *hows that Mr. Parker hns been indioied in the Circuit Court, for obstructing ihe Uniled Stales Marshal in the service of p rocess agninsl Anthony Burns, in May and June lust. We regafd this proseculion, at ihis lime, as needless and unforlunate, and we believe il will be regretted by every sincere lover of good or. dcr and the public .quiet. At best, Mr. Parker 's offence is n construclive one, and if our own recollection faiihfully serves us, government will find il htjrd to provceven thai.— Bui without entering into ihe' merits of the case itself, we think it right to say that the prosecution is a political one, that it is dangerous to free speech, and thnt it can only result in opening wounds which were already healing, and stirring up bad blood, which was already begininj; to cool. Political prosecutions are almost always blunders, and I his one will prove no exception lo the rule..— What Government expects to gai...
