Iiafayette Program . The Lafayette Memorial _Evercises , notwithstanding the fact that the Commission had set apart Oct . 19 , as the day to be memorial ! / observed by Americans , were not held by the college until last Friday night . At that time however the memory of Lafayette was very fittingly honored by interesting literary exercises consisting of eulogistic orations , recitations , patriotic songs , and the like . In spite of the comparatively small audience , the exercises were a success . There was every evidence that the hearers were interested and entertained in no small degree ; and certainly those who had parts on the program deserved all the attentiveness the audience bestowed , since they performed their respective parts with much ability and merit . One could very readily see that when they set about preparing their productions , they had an adequate appreciation of the greatness and grandncss of the general theme—Lafayette , and that they spared no efforts to make a...

Pi _» of . S . T . Fofd . Mr . Ford is a great elocutionist . He is a man of fine presence , and has a voice of vast compass and pleasant quality , thoroughly moderated . He entertained the audience for two hours and nobody got tired . It was all sorts of a good show—gay , grave , heavy , fun pathos , dialect , humor and strong dramatic power . All selections were good—none longer than eight minutes—and there was not a book in sight . This is one of the many testimonials given Prof . Ford , One of Americas greatest entertainers . The Athletic Association has the pleasure of having secured Mr . Ford to give one of hU celebrated entertainments in Brua Chapel , Saturday evening , Nov . 12 . We would heartily recommend Mr . Ford to the student body . He has made very reasonable terms to our Athletic Association . Those who cannot take part in our games , may have an evening of pleasure and help along the good cause of athletics by buying tickets . College men cannot afford to miss good ...

_T _^ HE excellent playing o ( the team on Saturday last was the cause I of much favorable comment on the part of the student body . The general opinion before the game was that the score would be at least ten and possibly twenty in favor of the University of Maryland . As the score , nothing to nothing indicates it was one of the hardest fought games ever played on Nixon Field . The great difference in weight of the teams , the University of Maryland averaging at least twelve pounds more than the College team , was an advantage to the University , but the science , pluck and dogged determination of Gettysburg made the efforts of the Maryland team useless when they vainly attempted to score having the ball six inches from the goal . We feel sure in saying that the confidence which the students had in the team , although it lessened somewhat up to the time of the Maryland game , has been greatly strengthened and that in the coming games the whole College will give its loyal support ....

ATHbETIC NEWS . I A Wkiglb , 00 , Reporter _GniJYSIIUKG-O , UMVERSIIYOI MAKVLANO-O . The Gettysbuig boys far exceeded their own hopes when they played a tie game with the strong University of Maiyland team last Saturday in the closest and most exciting game which has been seen on Nixon Field for years For seveial yeais past the scores have been closer with this team than with any other , though somewhat in Gettysbuig _s favor , and the visitois came this time with the intention of wiping out Gettysbuig s pietentions to a foot ball team . They have a team far heavier than ours , especially in the backs , and felt confident of winning by at least 24 to o . They play with the tackles back , a form of interference which seems to be rapidly gaining favor . Gettysburg had the first kick-off , and Maryland at once began to advance the ball with steady rushes , their interference seeming a _puzzler until the pigskin was finally captured by Gettysburg near her fifty yard line . The remainder...
