I EDITORIAL BY SOMEONE ELSE Our editorial this week is . written by Oliver C . Patten , of the editorial staff of the Times-Record , of Fort Smith , Ark ., who ; recently published a long front page article about a Christmas dinner given to artists in that city . Among other things worth reprinting , Mr . Patten said : , r „ Then there is another , side to the life of the mummers . The public seldom learns of the . heartaches that assail those ] whose chosen lot it is to entertain them or make them laugh . Many an actor has delivered his comedy lines before an audience that has roared with laughter , while that particular artist- was laboring with a heart bowed down , made possible , perhaps , / through the intelligence that a dear one , around whom the life of the actor centered , has passed ; across : the river Styx . But that actor was mortgaged to the public . His sphere in life was to make that public augh . The actor is human just like you and me ; for he has his joys and sorr...

PERSONALITIES [Newspaper Article] — Vaudeville News — 7 January 1921

PERSONALITIES F . L . Hall , manager of the Dixie Theatre in Uniontown , Pa ., has put into effect a novel idea that came to him recently . He has had built a special box near the stage floor for artists to deposit their baggage checks upon their arrival at the theatre . The artists -who arrive in Uniontown at an early hour may deposit their baggage checks in this box and then locate at their hotel and have their sleep until rehearsal time . This seems to be a novelty in -vaudeville and other managers and stage a managers would be doing a justice to . artists by following Mr . Halls example . Simon Shaffer , one of the old-time , celebrities , who has seen long service with the ! Barnum-Bailey Circus and other well known tops is now located at the Millard Hotel in Omaha , Neb . Mr . Shaffer is desirous of having some of his former friends write him a line and say- Howdy-Do ! Away out here in San Francisco , 3 , 300 miles from New York , I read your most interesting and much looked f...

I "LOEW-LYONS" I [Newspaper Article] — Vaudeville News — 7 January 1921

I LOEW-LYONS I By JIMMY LYONS EVERETT , WASH , DEC . 19 th . You leave Seattle from the N . P . Station at 8 a . m ., arriving here in Everett at 9 . 30 a . m . Would advise you to take a taxi to the theatre or hotels , as they are both located quite some distance from the depot . The taxi is only twenty-five cents per person . It is the Rose Theatre here . Not an overly large house . The stage and orchestra boys are very nice . The manager is also a regular guy . He is inclined to be plump and is very good-natured . Have you ever met a stout man who wasn t a good-natured person ? Mr . St . Peter is just that kind of a man . I suggest the Holton Hotel in Everett . The rooms are very comfortable and nice and neat , and the rates are moderate . The only restaurant in town is Weiser s . Matinees at the Rose , only on Saturday and Sunday : Business is exceptionally good . The next stand is Seattle . Advise going by Interurban . It saves you 50 per cent .
