The crop this year far exceeds any ever before bandied and while the railroads are laying their plans and while they express themselves as being confident of ...

rOTATOESMRPLY LOWER 1 [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Packer — 6 July 1907

rOTATOESMRPLY LOWER 1 UNDER FAIRLY LIBERAL RECEIPTS * PRICES WENT OFF . Expected Early Movement ef Kaw Volley Stock Caused Dealer * to Go Slow and Play oa Sate Side . 1 j Kansas City , July 6 . —Monday and Tuesday of this week prices of new potatoes suffered a severe decline , due to a moderate increase in carlot receipts , but more particularly to the appearance / oi ^ homegrown stock in much larger quantities ; . From a tew scattered lots of four to five bushels each , homegrown began to arrive at the rate oi 30 to 40 wagon loads a day and a difference in price turned tho small buyers away from the ship-ped-in potatoes without ceremony . These liberal receipts of homegrown stock brought the trade to a quick realization that they might shortly expect Kaw valley potatoes in quantities . This no doubt was the real cause for the timidity of operators . Tuesday prices dropped as low as 85 to 95 c per bushel for carload lots of shipped-iu stock . There was a recovery on Wednesday of abo...

St . Louis , July 5 . —The Glorious Fourth was pretty generally observed by St . Louis commission men , although nearly all of them were compelled to have their places open for a short time early in the morning in order to receive and take care of perishable stock . Owing to the scarcity of tomatoes those , who had cars of this vegetable on track were compelled to haul some in order to supply dealers who ran short . There was also a good demand for spring chickens from both butchers and restaurants . Long before noon , however , the street was deserted . The feature of the week in the St . Louis market was the heavy break - in the prices of new potatoes , which followed immediately after a good advance . On Monday good stock was scarce and prices took a jump . Homegrown receipts were ligh...

Ark ., July 4 ;—With plenty of sunshine during the month of July , the movement of peaches from northwest Arkansas will commence about the first of August . The crop is making a splendid showing and the rains of the past week or two have been very timely . Estimates are that Rogers will ship between fifty and sixty cars and it may run over that . One of the Rogers dealers in crates says he has already sold material enough within a twenty mile radius to snip over eighty cars of peaches . Very few peaches are being sold here in tbe orchard although one or two sales have been reported . Chas . Parkhurst , of near Southwest City , sold his ten acre orchard to Culver Crowder for $ 1 , 000 . One hundred dollars an acre for the fruit seems to be the average price for b...
