A decided relief could be afforded them, bat at present this burden it made math more onerous thsn nsed be. The taxes are now required to be paid all in the early part of tbe year when money is apt to be closest, in de fault of a considerable penalty. This is unnecessary. A full half of this money is not needed at the time collected, and lies idle io the treasury for six months For instance, the officers of Stearns oounty inform us that last year over seven thousand dollars in taxes were iu the Treasurer's haadi from Juue un til December—so much dead money. Hsd the spring collection been, for but fifty per cent, of the amount of tax levied, ibis' balance could have re mained with tbe people, to the very great relief of many and to the deci ded benefit of all.
