Two weeks go, we expressed onr belief that the in vestigation of the alleged fraud in the Kickapoo Treaty would prove a humbug. 'Oar pTtecipit tv&son was, want of con fidence in the persons having charge of the investigation. We are now more than ever inclined to that belief. The Commissioner met the Indians, together with the' Agent, and various hirelings and renegades who had been manipulat ing them, preparatory for this occasion. The programme had been previously cut and dried, and the Indians bluffed off from laying to their complaints. The Atchison Champion urges npon the mercbsnts of that town to make efforts for the trade of Doniphan County. After doing all in her power to drfeat enterprises calculated to bnild hd trade in this County, Atcbi- on now grabs for the trade which right fully belongs at borne. This the Cham pion proposes to do bj a system of mis representation, and by bribing one of onr Connty papers. Hera is one of the Cham pion's arguments : ,At this time, we especially desire .to eall attention to tho vast trade of Doni phan Connty, two thirds of whicb, with a little exertion by onr merchants, would centre in Atchison.
