Murray, a well known veterinary surgeon who has practiced his profession ia this city for a number of years, was arrested by Sheriff Shorno Sat urday upon a serious charge from Adams, Oregon, where Mr. Murray had gone temporarily a few weeks ago. The warraat was served upon instruction from Sheriff Taylorof Umatilla county. Mon day evening the prisoner escaped and to up this writing has not been ap prehended. Deputy Joe Blakeley of Pendleton arrived yesterday morning with requisition to take Murray back, but his bird bad flown. Conrad A. LO6IL EVENTS OF THE WEEK TOOETHGR WITH A PERSONAL MENTION OR THOSE IN THE noVINQ PANORAfIA OP LOCAL HISTORY Victor Alexander Freed, sixteen year old son and sole support of Mrs. Morris Ahern, widow, was almost instantly killed Saturday morning at 11:3o by the west-bound "North Coast Limited" pas senger train at the crossing on E street. The awful accident which cost the life of young Freed occurred on what is known to be the most dangerous cross ing in the town. On account of the large wheat warehouses on each side of the street, standing flush with both streets and railway track the view is almost cleiHy cut off so that the driver of a vehicle cannot see a rapidly approaching train until his team is practically upon the track, or so near, that retreat is near ly impossible.
