'THE FAIR PLAY- SMITH A WATHEX.Publither. 8ATCBDAT. APRIL 14, 18 The "man on horseback," becoming alarmed at the rapid progress of the Blaine movement in Illinois, has sud denly returned to Galena, hoping that his magical presence will stem the' tide. Mississippi and Stoddard counties have instructed for Messcr Ward for Congress. PavU had better return Lome to repair his fences, as Ward is booming. As was to be expected, the "sage of Gramercy Park" captured the Syra cuse convention with scarcely an ef fort. The delegates to Cincinnati will vote as a unit and go uninstruct- cd. The Tammany crowd, with Grand Sachem John Kelly at the Lead, held their little sideshow at the same time and city, flourished its tom ahawk, vowed war to the knife with Tilden, chose delegates, and adjourned tine die.
