Deliberating since 6 o'clock Thursday nipjht, a jtiry in the Fifty-fourth district court yesterday morning return- ed a verdict of Ruilty in the case of T. R. Watson, charged with murder in connection "with the fatal shooting of John S. Patter- eon, late commissioner of bank- ing and insurance, at Teague on August 28, and assessed his punishment at ninety-nine years in the penitentiary. Six ballots were taken, it is understood, the first being nine to three for death penalty. Mr. Watson, with his wife, four of their sons and two ot the defendent's brothers, were in the courtroom when the verdict was returned. One of the sons, Roscoe Watson, a member of Company- E, Third Texas Regi- ment, after the verdict had been .formally received by the court, went toward, the bench and, speaking to Judge R. I.
