SPECIAL TAXATION OF MOTORISTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Bunbury Herald and Blackwood Express — 25 October 1919

SPECIAL TAXATION OF MOTORISTS. A campaign is being set on foot in England 'for im provements in the laws affecting the interests of motor users. One thing to be asked for is that the proceeds of the motor spirit tax-and vehicle license duties shall be paid into a central road fund and applied to road improve ment. . ?? ... . , ' Commenting on this proposal, 'The Auto' says that it tacitly 'acknowledges the justice of the motor spirit tax, with which we do not agree at all.' We hold it to be opposed to all the best interests of traffic develop ment that one form of traction, and that the most modern and most efficient of all, should be singled out for differ ential taxation, whether directly (through a special vehicle tax) or more indirectly through the medium of a tax on the source of its motive power. There is no basic objection, so far as we can see, to the principle of an all-round vehicle tax. .... It appears to be no more than simple justice that those who actually useHhe roads...

DELCO STARTING AND LIGHTING EQUIPMENT. [Newspaper Article] — The Bunbury Herald and Blackwood Express — 25 October 1919

DELCO STARTING AND LIGHTING EQUIPMENT. It may not be generally known that the Delco light ing and starting equipment as fitted to the Buick car, is also fitted to some of the highest grade cars sold in America to-day, including the Packard, which is the highest priced car in the United States, and the Cadillac.' The Delco system was adopted by the War Office for use m^their -Liberty aeroplane motors— the standard motor used tor the American Air Service. It would be impos sible to pay a greater compliment to the Delco system than this; . the fact of the War Office having decided to e2U1^ 1 eir a'oplane motors with the. Delco .system snould.be a sufficient guarantee as to its reliability '' '

Items of Interest. Speed and Road Wear. [Newspaper Article] — The Bunbury Herald and Blackwood Express — 25 October 1919

[?] Speed and Road Wear. Giving evidence before the Select Committee on the . Motor Vehicles Bill (S.A.) a Government inspector stated '- that the ordinary motor car 'did very little damage to roads when driven at speeds not exceeding 25 miles per hour. .* * * Well up to Standard. A striking demonstration of the strength and econ- t omy of the present-day car was provided recently (says the 'South Australian Motor') by the performance of Mr. J. H. Provis, when travelling between Murray Bridge and Peterborough. Drivinga Model 90 Overland car, he journeyed from Murray Bridge to Peterborough, return ing the following day. Though conditions were far from ideal, the trip was accomphsned without engine trouble. Probably the most remarkable feature was the excep tionally low petrol consumption, twenty-eight miles to the gallon being the average for .the round trip.' It is obvious that the Model 9U Overland is well up to the standard of its predecessors. ^ ♦ *.'.♦?./. Heyl Taxi. Henry Ford ...
