Our Melbourne Letter. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 12 October 1889

SOur;Eelbourne Letter.; (FROM OUR O - COnnRRESPODENT.) In my last letter I ventured to say that there was a great deal of hypocrisy in con nection with the protests now being made against the establislhment in Melbourne of a Sunday newspaper. Sines then I have read a sermon on Sunday observance by the Rev. Dr. Strong, which was published in thie "Argus"last week. That discourse deserves to be engraved on marble in letters of gold. Regkhrldi tie generally accepted idea about keeping tie Sabbath, Dr. Strong pits then teaching of Jesus Christ against the liowof ?Moses; and takes his standl upon the termer. J.Isns Christ appenaed neither tcths law of Moseso, nor to the. traditions of the 'Elders. le appealed'to the great principle, says Dr. Strong, which no law, no Bible, Chu'rcll, or nuthority can overrule--the principle of reason and of lorve in other words, what is best for man? Why should we he bound by a Hebrew Decodloges any more than by the precepts of Buddha or the law of Mann ?...
